Communities and Local Government have allocated £30 million for the Thames Gateway Parklands and across north Kent partners have been working together to produce a co-ordinated business plan that sets out our priorities to secure some of these funds. This plan incorporates a number of projects within Kent Thameside:
1) Dartford Green Heart focuses on Central Park and will develop a Visitor Hub as a key access, destination and information point within the Park as well as restore and improve the habitat of 2km of Chalk River and 0.5km of tidal river; 2) Bridges, marshes and connections which will provide 23km of high quality traffic-free paths for walking, cycling and disabled access as well as improve access to the River Thames, River Darent and Dartford Marshes; 3) Thames and Medway Canal - Great Expectations which will conserve, enhance and increase access to 6.56 hectares of town centre green space including the historic New Tavern Fort and the restoration of 1,000 metres of the Thames and Medway Canal providing links to NCR1 and the Saxon Shore Way connecting to the proposed Cliffe RSPB reserve 4) A2 Activity Park - which will provide 37.5 hectares of new green space forming a key Green Grid connection between the urban edge of Gravesham, the Ebbsfleet development, other green grid sites and the wider countryside as well as restore/ create 37.5 hectares of a high quality landscape and 10 hectares of new habitat (woodland, chalk grassland), provide a nationally significant cycling activity centre for local communities and restore and enhance 25 hectares of previously damaged land in Northfleet.
